The Delhi Judicial Academy (DJA)
owes its existence to the vision and foresight of Hon’ble Mr. Justice S.B.
Sinha, then Chief Justice, High Court of Delhi, and Hon’ble Mr. Justice
Anil Dev Singh, Hon’ble Mr. Justice Dalveer Bhandari, Hon’ble Mr. Justice
V.S. Aggarwal, Hon’ble Mr. Justice A.K. Sikri, Hon’ble Mr. Justice R.C.
Chopra and Hon’ble Mr. Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul, then members of the
Judicial Officers Training Programme Committee.
The Delhi Judicial Academy was
inaugurated on 22nd February 2002 in the Karkardooma Courts Complex by
Hon’ble Mr. Chief Justice S.B. Sinha. It continues to function at the same
place but is soon to shift to the Integrated Complex at Dwarka housing the
Delhi Judicial Academy and the National Law University, Delhi.
The DJA is a department of the NCT
of Delhi supervised by the High Court of Delhi. The Chief Justice of the
High Court of Delhi is the ex-officio Patron-in-Chief of the Academy. The
Judicial Education and Training Programme Committee comprising of four
judges of the High Court of Delhi nominated by the Patron-in-Chief
supervises the functioning of the Academy.
